Pinewood Derby Time

Yes it is that time of year again. When we see how fast (or slow) that car design will go. This year Matt and Doug decided to make a truck. Matt picked out the one he wanted to do and Doug did it. Matt did help with the sanding and paint color, but because the truck was so heavy Doug spent many an hour with a wood chisel trying to take weight out. It turned out really cool looking, but we learned an important lesson. Trucks are not built for speed. They may haul great and when you get that powerful engine in them, they may move pretty fast. But going down an incline with no engine, not so much. Matt did receive a ribbon for the design and was very pleased with it. Although, he is determined to do all his own work next year which is great since Nate will also be making one at the same time and need lots of Daddy help.

We Lived Through Spring Break

I remember being in school and just living for spring break....as a parent I'm glad that we all live through spring break. There are many factors that contribute to this feeling, the first of many being that it is not spring here in Cleveland. In fact it won't be spring for another month. Hence my very energetic, loud, and crazy boys are stuck inside because the temperature will not go higher than 34 degrees on most days. Another factor is that mom and dad are completely stressed out. Selling a house, finishing requirements for dental school, up coming board tests, Air Force red tape, and dental licencing procedures do not make for calm collected people. The boys get the idea that mom and dad are on edge and feed off of it. Which leads to more craziness. Then you add Easter candy and late nights that the boys spend talking, playing, and goofing off instead of sleeping like they are suppose to be doing. And you get over sugared, cranky kids. Is it time for school to start yet??? But to remind myself that they are still lovable I had to get this picture of all of them "spread out" in one twin sized bed. (One of their favorite things to do)

Easter

Easter came too early this year. We had snow on the ground so Easter egg hunt was in the basement (again). The Easter Bunny was only prepared because she purchased stuff at the after-Easter sale last year. And to top it off there was no egg dying. But I did take pictures of what we were able to accomplish which was to look through baskets.

To Recap the Last Month

Well, the house is ready to be put on the market, the taxes are done, and I'm almost caught up with my laundry. So what other projects have I pushed to the side in the sake of house perfection. Oh yes, the blog!!! So here is us in the last month.

February was a big month for Danny. On the 15th we had his friend birthday party. Cars was the theme this year with car races, a rousing game of Car's Uno, a spin-off of pin the tail on the donkey (but Cars of course), and Car's cake. Can we do a party or what? Dan was just excited to have all his friends come over to his house to play. Danny was also given an award by the South Euclid - Lyndhurst School District for Citizenship. He was able to go on stage and shake the hands of all the board members. For days he kept telling us he was getting his award.

The next big events were for Matt. First was the Blue and Gold Banquet for Cub Scouts. This year they had the Chinese New Year as a theme. We were to bring cakes decorated for a contest. Matt chose to do a cake that represented the envelopes that are given to children in China filled with gold coins to celebrate the New Year. He also participated in a Living Wax Museum where all the children were dressed as famous African Americans. They had researched their individual and had to have a three to five line message memorized that they repeated anytime someone touched them. They also got to strike a pose. That was Matt's favorite part. Matt chose to be Jackie Robinson. I think he chose it just to bring in his ball and glove.

Last but not least Doug got to participate in the first annual Mayfield Ward Elders Quorum Pinewood Derby. The only rules were that it had to make it down the track with no damage inflicted on the track or other racers. I loved seeing the guys in the ward excited about how their cars were performing. I understand at on point cell phones where being taped on for added weight. Doug is more into the aesthetics than the function and he made the Transformer Bumblebee car. All the boys at the race knew exactly what it was when we showed up. He also decided that if he gets the opportunity again that he will have to do Lighting McQueen. At least he will win the kids vote.

Does this man ever age???? I've seen pictures that he looks exactly the same 20 years ago.
