Canyon Lake

We haven't done much in the way of sight seeing around San Antonio. Something about it being 100 degrees with 80% humidity, deters one from walking around and taking in the sights. I figure the Alamo will still be there when it is 75 degrees. This being the case, I have still looked for things that we could do.

When Doug came home from work talking about the Air Force recreation area at Canyon Lake, we packed a lunch and off we went. The lake was low because of the drought but we were able to walk the shore and pick up shells.

We were even surprised by a little family of deer.

First Day of School

After a very short break (two weeks) the boys headed back to school. It was a little crazy leading up to the first day. We had to find a place to live, then get a contract, register for school, and buy supplies all in one week and living in TLF. We also had some uncertainty about which school everyone would be at.
Just like all school districts Northside Independent School District has issues with classroom size. Their solution is to limit the number of kids in each class and bus the overflow children to a school that has room. With our boys being such a a late registration, there was a high possibility they would be bused. As it worked out Matt and Danny attend Galm Elementary, while Nate attends Langley Elementary. It makes for some crazy times but we are making it work. (Just don't remind me of that at 5:45 am).

What is in Your Front Yard???

While we were looking for a house and then waiting for it to become available we stayed in Temporary Living Facility (TLF) on Lackland. This is a special experience. We were given a two room suite. The two rooms consisted of a small bedroom and sitting room with a small kitchenette attached. Although this did allow for me to make most of our meals, it didn't allow for a lot of privacy. But we solved this problem with water guns and visits to the parade grounds were we could see these......

Mom, does this look familiar?

So what is in your front yard?

Military Move

For those of you who have never experienced a military move, I am here to convince you it is a double edged sword. On one hand you have these guys

to handle all the heavy lifting. Also you also get people to pack all this up

to look like this.

Unfortunately, this just makes me nervous. I'm one of those weird people that enjoys packing their own boxes. Something about knowing where everything is and having strangers handling all my earthy possessions.

And you can't over exaggerate this

Lovely, glorious room.
Plenty of room for all those earthy possessions. Along with having someone else doing the driving, a month of free storage, and having people deliver all those possessions into the correct rooms instead of the garage, this may seem like the holy grail of moves.
Ahhhh but there is always a down side. In fact it is still too fresh for me to share pictures. The items that disappear in the move (if you can figure out how a bookcase or a single table leg does this, please enlighten me). The scratches, scrapes, pressure marks, and out right breakage of furniture that happens. Not to mention the total dependency you find yourself feeling when you are on someone else's schedule (or lack there of). Yes there is a dark side to the military move.
But we have made it through another one. We are all set up and settled in. I may do a picture tour of our house. Then again I may not, seeing as the house should be clean to do one of those. And my house is never clean all at once.
