A New Year's Eve Post

2000

2001

One last word before this year ends, one last musing at the end of this decade. It didn't hit me that this is the last day of this decade until I was making my bed this morning. (What? You don't think of big thoughts while you are making the bed.) Wow! So I have not only been going over what has happened this last year but also what has happened these last ten years.

2002
2003
2004
Over the last ten years our family was put together one member at a time. Yes, just three boys for us. Those that attended dental school with us said it would never last, but we are happy as a family of five. We have celebrated first steps, first words, first haircuts, and first days of school. We have had many birthdays, two baptisms, and one graduation. We have lived in four different states and the boys have attended three different elementary schools. Doug and I have served in the church as everything from Ward Clerk to Scout Leader to Nursery Worker with many in between. We have grown physically, educationally, and spiritually.

2005

2006

What a busy decade and the next promises to be more so. In the next ten years we will have many birthdays, three boys receive the priesthood, three Eagle Court of Honor's, three new drivers, two graduations, one completed mission, and one mission being served. We will move again and the boys will go to middle school then on to high school. Doug and I will continue to serve in the Church to the best of our ability. We will grow physically, educationally, and spiritually.

Say Cheese

Since we don't know how close to "home" we will be next year, we traveled to Mesa again to celebrate Christmas. We were blessed to be able to celebrate with all our family on both sides. So what do you do when you get everyone together? Take family pictures of course!!!! I was just glad we only had to put together one picture outfit (yes I know, males don't have outfits but you give me another name for a coordinated set of clothes) for both sets of pictures.

We took the Holmes' Family Pictures on the Mesa Temple grounds. After which Doug expressed the thought that the grounds may need to be re-dedicated since some of our behavior was less than reverent. Here are a few of my favorites that we were able to catch.

The Original Five
Doug, Bryant, Tyler, James
Cathie, Farrell, Becky

Grandma and Grandpa with the Twelve Grandchildren

Matt, Jacob, Marin
Grandma and Ben, Grandpa and Micheal, Ashlyn
Danny, Nate, Jerry, Randon
Adam, Thomas

The Holmes' Men
We really don't have a lack of boys

Holmes' Girls
We do need a few more of these

The next day was the Smith Family's turn. We took pictures at the Mesa Art Center. We had fun with different areas around the Art Center but since I was in a lot of the pictures I only got to take a few of my own.

Mom and Dad/Nana and Papa
Don't they look great????

The Smith Boys
Doug, Dad, Craig, Spencer
Danny, Matt, Nat
Craig looks so happy to have a crowd around him.
It has taken a long time but finally the men out number the women in the family.

Smith Girls
Kate, Kristen, Mom, Jen
Jymie
Out numbered finally!!!!

Their First
Craig and Jymie are expecting their first. Jymie was such a good sport at stuck out her tummy as far as she could for the pictures. Not that it would go out very far. Needless to say, as a family we are so excited for this new little one to come.

Cool Aunt Jen and her boys
Isn't she beautiful? My boys always know that CA Jen is always up for fun.

Family Pictures

I feel so lucky this year to have found someone to take our family pictures. Over the last three years I have gotten use to having Sabrina Atwood take our pictures that I didn't just want to go to Target to have them done. After much research, I was able to find Allysonkaye Photography (http://allysonkayephotography.blogspot.com/). It is a partnership of two women that photograph family, groups, kids, etc. A few e-mails and I have a session date. Then comes the choosing of the clothes to be worn, let's just say it was easier when they put on what I pulled out and they had no opinion. The Saturday arrives and everyone is excited. Hair is brushed, more important teeth are brushed, clothes straightened and off we go. Not knowing the area well, I ask the photographer to suggest a location that would work well. She suggests the Springs Mountain Ranch State Park. It is a beautiful area with great textures with fence, pastures, brick buildings, red rocks, and trees. It's ideal…..too bad we are not allowed to take pictures there for reasons still unknown to us common man but no worries big brother is looking out for us. A quick change of plans and we head to one of national parks just down the road. I have decided this years pictures will be called "The Lost" year. Look at some of the facial expressions in these and you will see what I mean.

Notice the dazed and confused look on some of these faces.

Yep, he's a handsome stink!!!

He's kinda cute too.

And this one couldn't be out done by the brothers.

I love this picture....all except Nate's face. I'm threatening to send it out as our Christmas cards this year anyway. Maybe next year he will decided to SMILE!!!!!

Then again, maybe he gets his smiling thing from his mother.

But then we have moments like these......

All of my Men

Proof that we do hold hands......hehe

Yes, some of us do look a little lost but I think this maybe this years winner.
