See Matt Run

Matt ran the hurdles this season for track.  He took 6th overall in our school district.

Dan's Special Olympics

Dan participated in the Northside Independent School District's Special Olympics this last week.  The event started out with a parade of athletes.  The kids carry noise makers and cheer as they pass the stands.

After opening ceremonies it is off to his first event.  This year he participated in the Standing Long Jump.

The Junior ROTC from  Brennan High School where there to cheer on the athletes and hand out medals.

Dan got Gold!!!!

His second event was the 100 meter run.  

He took bronze.  After the events were over we had closing ceremonies where Galm Elementary won the spirit award.  We have enjoyed being able to participate in these events here in San Antonio.  

Football Season

For those of you that follow my status posts on Facebook you know that last fall was taken up with football games.  This year both Matt and Nate played for Luna Middle School.  Both boys played wide receiver position X (don't ask me what that means but they seem to think it's important.)  This meant a crazy schedule for Doug and I because both boys played the same school at the same time in different places.  So Doug and I decided to divide and concur.  One of us would take the home games for a month while the other would take the away game and then we would switch.  This seemed to work pretty well as long as we text each other updates on the games we were watching.  

Matt was less than happy with his team this year as they had a losing season but looked good doing it. 

Nate on the other hand had a wonderful winning season, but has since decided to hang up his cleats for good.  One season was enough for him.

Football

As stated before, Matt is playing football.  He plays on the 7th grade B team for  his middle school, the Luna Longhorns and is loving every minute of it.  In fact one of his favorite things to do when being picked up from practice to list the hits he took, the injuries he has recently sustained, and the aches that he is feeling.  Silly me, I thought they would be playing flag football but this is Texas and they play full tackle, must have pads and mouth guard football.  I have decided where football is concerned I have a split personality.  I'm proud of his determination to do something that is difficult and requires a lot of work while at the same time I'm worried about my boy being hurt.  But usually the proud parent overrules the worried mother.

Matt is #33 and his coaches love to put him in because he doesn't care how much bigger the other kid is he will keep hitting him until the play is called and smiles while doing it.

Baseball Season

Thanks to a wonderful woman in our ward who organized a neighborhood baseball league, our boys are playing ball. (at least on a field) They have practices on Fridays and games on Saturdays. It's wonderful!!!!

They have t-shirts, hats, and will even get a trophy when it's the season is over. The best part about this league is it is made up of kids that are at the same skill level as my boys. (Is there a skill level when you don't know what you're doing???) Plus the parents just enjoy sitting and chatting with each other rather than telling the kids how they should play or coaches/refs what to do. It's a nice way to spend a few spring evenings.
