Dental School Graduation

What joy fills my heart when I can finally write those words. It was the best of best days. One that will take a while to fade from my memory. It didn't come without it's own problems (the zipper on my dress breaking) or without lots and lots of tears. But as the boys say "Mommy is crying happy tears." Words cannot express the feeling of seeing my husband walk with his class into Convocation or stand for pictures in his doctorate robes or see my father bestow Doug's degree upon him or see him raise his right hand as he takes his Oath of Office as a Captain in the United States Air Force as given him by my grandfather. There are not words.....but hopefully pictures will say a little of what I can't.

Doug and His Boys

This says it all to me

Doug walking into Convocation

Holmes Family

Dad and Doug in their Robes

Another emotional moment....my dad placed his hat on my head and told me that I deserved to wear it

The dentists and their wives

"God Almighty has brought me;

the love of family has supported me;

the joy of friendship has uplifted me,

and with the guidance

given by the Holy Spirit,

I have arrived!"

Nate's Baptism

Nate was baptised this last Saturday. We were so lucky to have most of our family join us for this special event. Nate made all the decisions about who he wanted to participate on the program and made all the calls to invite them to participate. Nate asked Grampy to give the talk on baptism and me to give the talk on the Holy Ghost. Doug baptised Nate and confirmed him with all the priesthood holders in our family that could make it in the circle. It was a very emotional day for me and one the I will always treasure.

Nate's 8th Birthday

Nate turned 8 this last Thursday. He was so excited. Eight is a big year and he planned to do it up big too. He is all about space right now, from rockets to Mars and everything in between. But this being his 8th birthday, he received some very traditional presents. He received his set of scriptures and scripture tote. He also received his first suit. Nana and Papa gave him his Cub Scout uniform which he was very excited to put on. He also received Mars Mission Lego toys from his brothers and a very nice watch from Grampy and Grandma Lurane. He really made out this year. Not to mention all the presents he received when everyone got to town. Nate decided to celebrate his birthday by going to his first Cub Scout meeting and sharing his cake. It was perfect, they launched rockets that all the boys had to run after. I don't think Nate's smile could get any bigger as he "hi-fived" the other scouts as they all left the activity. DON'T YOU LOVE 8!!!!!!!!

Field Trips

'Tis the Season.....the season for field trips. The weather is finally "nice", the buses are big and noisy, and (lets face it) teachers are about to go crazy if they stay couped up with our children any longer. Starting last week and for the next two weeks all three boys will go on field trips.

Danny started the craze by visiting the Lake County Farm Park. I was lucky enough to go with the Kindergardeners. We got to pet sheep, milk cows, see a sheep dog in action, plant a potato, and enjoy great weather.

Today Nate will be visiting Burton Village and taking Doug along for the ride. The village is a place that historical buildings all over Ohio have been moved and preserved. The kids will be able to see how school was conducted way-back-when, what church looked like, and see how people lived when Ohio was first being settled.

Next week Matt will be off to meet with his pin-pals, see the school he would be attending (if we were staying), and enjoying some programs.

Don't get all this fun confused with BBQ's, pictures, dinners, birthday, birthday party, baptism, graduation, art shows, bookfairs, music programs, and famous American reports that will be happening all at the same time. I love spring!!!! There is never a dull moment

Trying For Glamor

Yes I did attempt, but I believe I fell a bit short. This was proven to me my none other than my children. A little back story first. Doug and I have not once attended any of the many "dress-up" activities that the dental school has provided. (Yes I know.....anti-social) But with this being the last year and all, we decided to generously grace our presence upon all those who attended the Senior Dinner. (And the peasants rejoiced.....not really, but we like to think so) So I thought this was a great time to "pull out all the stops". (For future reference when there is stop in the saying I should just "STOP") And this is where we pick-up on the story.

Mom is getting ready in her room with the door closed, listening to the kids ask Dad every few minutes: "Where is Mom????" Only to have Dad respond that Mom is getting ready for the dinner tonight. They come back with "STILL???" (You have to love boys) When finally it becomes clear to let the boys come into my room, Nate takes one look at me and says, "You look tired."

"Tired?" I ask. "I wasn't going for tired!" At which point Mom leaves the room to go find Dad for a second opinion. Before she is able to reach Dad, she meets up with Matt and Danny who promptly start screaming and running away. And Mom thinks, "Great now I'm scaring small children." When Dad finally gives the opinion that yes that is more make-up than we are use to seeing, but it still looks nice; Mom convinces herself that it really doesn't look bad.....but looking back I'm not so sure.

What do you think???????

Holmes Look-alike Meter

Well, it seems that we have been wrong all along. The Holmes genes almost won out when we thought there wasn't a chance and the Smith genes proved to be very, very strong. What do you think???
